Oxford Mens November 2015 - Fixture
Army Mens vs Oxford University Mens
07 November Friendly Fixture
Many thanks to Oxford University Tennis for being so welcoming.
On Saturday 7th November, the Army Mens team competed against Oxford Universities' top tennis players. This was the Army Mens first competitive match since the Inter-Services earlier in the year. As a result, the Oxford students took advantage of a lack of match practice, with an end result of 8-1. However, the score does not reflect the high levels of tennis played by both teams. In the case of team captain Lt Ben Rogers’ singles, he narrowly lost 6-7 (8) & 6-2 & 8-10 and LCpl Cobus Van Achterbergh and Cfn Liam Eaton's doubles, again narrowly losing in a match tie-break 4-6 & 6-3 & 9-11. The end result could have very easily been different. However, nothing can be taken away from the top
level tennis Oxford demonstrated throughout the day.
LCpl Dave Perry had a remarkably good day of tennis. After losing his rusty game of doubles playing alongside Pte Reece Munnery, he then went on to play some of his best tennis this year; narrowly losing to Oxford Universities’ previous number one 5-7 & 3-6. Pte Reece Munnery avenged his doubles partners' loss securing a singles victory
6-1 & 7-6 (3). Overall, it was an encouraging day of tennis from the home time and a promising start to the winter season. Undoubtedly, the Army Squad will soon reap the benefits of their hard work as their dedicated approach to training continues. Many thanks to Pte Reece Munnery for writing this report.
