Cambridge Mens October 2018 - Fixture
Army Mens vs Cambridge University Mens
28 October Friendly Fixture
The Army Mens team hosted the Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club at Downton Leisure Centre on 28 Oct 18. The Army team were in good form, despite not having a competitive fixture for a couple of months. This was the first match of a long season for the Army team, which finished in a dramatic tie break shootout.
Capt Ben Rogers maintained his winning streak from the Inter-Services earlier in the Summer, winning both singles and doubles with Capt Tristan Williams at Number 1. There was a great deal of high quality tennis played throughout the afternoon, including a doubles win for Lt Dan Hunt and Cpl Dave Perry. The pendulum swung back towards the opposition for a handful of rubbers including two particularly narrow singles losses for Lt Dan Hunt and Capt Tristan Williams in singles. Following a further singles loss for Cpl Dave Perry, the match was tied at 3-3 and a tiebreak shoot-out would decide the fixture. Honours were split after the first round with Capt Ben Rogers winning and Capt Tristan Williams failing to complete a commendable comeback. However, the ‘night watchman’ of the team, Cpl Dave Perry stepped up to perform in doubles with Lt Dan Hunt with
some fast hands at the net and some aggressive returning.
Many congratulations to all players that were selected for this fixture and a special thanks to CULTC for making the journey south. The next men’s match will be held against Leeds Beckett University on 3 Nov 18.
