Bath Mens December 2018 - Fixture
Army Mens vs Bath University Mens
13 December Friendly Fixture
The final fixture of the 2018 calendar year saw the Army Men’s team travel to the high performance tennis centre at Bath University to face off against one of the countries leading institutions in sport. An imbued Army team were well equipped with an almost full strength side to battle it out against their opposition. The welcome addition of Lawrence Tere since the last fixture in Leeds was a real boost to the team’s chances of furthering their unbeaten run.
The Army Men’s Captain, Ben Rogers, got the team off to a flying start securing a straight forward victory against his opponent. The other singles results were much tighter; all going in favour of Bath unfortunately. The highlight reel witnessed Lawrence Tere losing out on a match tiebreak in the third set and Tristan Williams narrowly coming up short by one break in each set. The final singles match of the day saw Reece Munnery stepping up as number one for the Army; a tactical move designed to support a fatigued team. Despite his best efforts, he was outmatched on the day succumbing to the Bath number one string in straight sets.
The doubles rubbers were split evenly with Munnery/Tere losing by the smallest of margins against a solid pair and Williams/Rogers putting on a display that showcased why they are still unrivalled this year. The second round results meant that the Army’s unbeaten run since August had come to an end but there is still plenty to be buoyant about. Many congratulations to all players that were selected for this fixture and a special thanks to Bath University for being so hospitable. The next men’s match will be held against Durham University on 12 Jan 19.
